Itinerary Details
Day 1: Welcome to Ulaanbaatar
Meet your travel crew and fellow travelers in Ulaanbaatar. Settle in your centrally located hotel and enjoy your free time following your air travel. Opt to indulge in the bittersweet history of Mongolia at the National Museum, which features exhibitions of dinosaur findings, history of Mongolia’s dynasties and empires, and socialism and modern era. If time permits, the option is yours to stroll through the city center. Gather for the reception dinner with your fellow travelers and guides. (3-star hotel, D)
DAY 2: Terelj National Park
Delve into the picturesque Terelj National Park which is officially named as Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Walk the 108-steps of Aryabal monastery and trek to the nearby mountain to get birds-eye view of the Taiga. (Ger camp; B-L-D)
DAY 3: Baga Gazryn Chuluu
Venture into the renowned archeology rich destination to trek the immense rocky outcrops which features the bygone petroglyphs, burial mounds, and monuments, caves, and deer stones. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 4: Ikh Gazryn Chuluu
Trek Mongolia’s huge expanse of granite rock outcrops or boulders with sizable caves and keep an eye out for the local wildlife including the Argali wild sheep in this remarkable national park. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 5: Tsagaan Suvarga
Hit on the dramatic limestone cliffs situated on the desert steppe. These 60-meter-high steep cliffs allow sweeping views to the sea of desert plain which was the sea bottom millions of years ago. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 6: Yolyn Am (Lammergeier Valley)
Take a scenic drive to the incredibly scenic Gurvan Saikhan National Park which is a chain of 3 beautiful mountains stretching from the grand Gobi Altai mountain range. Trek the deep, narrow gorge of Yolyn Am and enjoy the dinosaur bones at the local museum. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 7-8: Khongoryn Els
Embark on a long but incredibly scenic drive to the massive Singing Sands. Hike up the dunes to catch the sunset as you hear the sands singing and see the sweeping views of the area. Enjoy a camel caravan excursion on the sand for an hour. Stargazing in the late evening is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 9: Bayanzag
Famed for the world’s first discovery of dinosaur eggs in the 20th century, Bayanzag is a must-see place for all travelers. Wandering around the paleontological rich Flaming Cliffs, look for the fragments of the dinosaur bones buried by the dust. (ger camp, B-L-D)
Day 10: Ongi Monastery
Head out to the thought-provoking Ongi Monastery or Ongiin Khiid, which had been one of the largest before the religious purge in the last century. Visit a ger museum hearing the sad stories about the temple and meet the head lama to talk the present situations and future prospects. Trek the ruins inspired by the Mongolian Buddhism inspiration. Day 11: Khugnu-Tarna National Park
Explore the peculiar natural formations of the Khungu-Tarna National Park (official name). Immersing yourself in the heavenly environment, visit the Uvgun Temple located in the mountains. Trek the Khugnu Khan Mountain to get incredible views of one of Mongolia’s most extraordinary landscapes – sands, lush valley bottom dotted by cattle, and the mountains topped by granite tors. Day 12: Hustai National Park
Travel to Hustai (officially Khustain Nuruu National Park) which is a successful reintroduction site for the last wild horse living in the native environment. Meet the researchers at the park and hike along the trail, indulging in the exclusive natural scenery, the rolling hills crowned by granite tors and birch-forested sloped exploring the wild horses, flower wonders, and the famed wildlife. Day 13: Ulaanbaatar
Upon taking a panoramic drive to the Ulaanbaatar, check in your centrally located hotel. Then set off to Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs. If you are in the mood for shopping, go for the world-class cashmere and souvenirs for back home. Enjoy the fascinating folklore performance by Tumen Ekh Ensemble. (Hotel, B-L-D)
Day 14: Fly Home
