Day 2|Terelj National ParkGranite and Taiga

Drive 2 hrs

Into the picturesque valleys of Gorkhi-Terelj: climb the 108 steps of the Aryabal meditation temple and walk the nearby ridges for a bird's-eye view over the taiga's southern edge.

Hustai

Day 3|Hustai National ParkThe Last Wild Horse

Drive 3–4 hrs

West to Khustain Nuruu, where the takhi — Przewalski's horse — was returned to its homeland in the 1990s. More than 220 now roam these rolling steppes; evening is the hour to watch the harems come down to water, with marmots, gazelle and raptors alongside.

Khugnu-Tarna

Day 4|Khugnu-Tarna National ParkThree Landscapes in One

Drive 3–4 hrs

Khugnu-Tarna throws boulder mountains, golden dunes and green steppe into a single frame. Visit the Uvgun temple hidden in the rocks, walk to the mountaintop or birdwatch the Burd marshland — then spend the evening with a nomadic family.

Day 5|UlaanbaatarReturn to the Capital

Drive 4–5 hrs

Back to the city for the National Museum's sweep through dinosaurs, empires and the modern era — and a last evening of cashmere shopping or folklore performance.
