Fly to Murun, capital of Khuvsgul Province, and take the town's measure — museum, market and the mountains rising to the north.

Drive 3 hrs

Drive to the lake and let it do the rest: a cruise on water so clear the stones glow beneath the hull, ringed by dark taiga and bright shingle beaches.

Day 4|Khuvsgul LakeReindeer People

Ride out to a camp hosted by Tsaatan reindeer herders and spend the day in their company — the animals, the ortz tents, the taiga way of life. Optional horseback riding and birdwatching round out the lake days.

Drive 3 hrs

Return south via Uushigiin Uvur, a complex of twenty Bronze Age deer stones — the tallest four metres — then an evening in Murun with its local museum.

Fly 1.5 hrs
