Mongolia's great festival of wrestling, racing and archery anchors this mid-summer journey. Drive 4–5 hrs

West to Khugnu-Tarna's collage of rock, dune and steppe. Visit the Uvgun temple in the mountains, ride horses or camels through the sands, and stay with nomadic families at a community ger camp.

Drive 4–5 hrs

Into the Orkhon Valley, UNESCO-listed cradle of steppe empires, to the waterfall born of ancient eruptions — with deer stones, petroglyphs and burial mounds en route.

Day 4|Tuvkhun MonasteryZanabazar's Retreat

Drive 2–3 hrs

A scenic ride to Tuvkhun, the meditation refuge Zanabazar raised on Mount Shiveet-Ulaan in 1648. The narrow path to the summit earns a panorama over the forested Khangai.

Unravel Karakorum, the Mongol Empire's thirteenth-century capital: a guided walk through the great walled monastery of Erdene Zuu and the Kharkhorin museum's treasures.

Drive 3–4 hrs

At a nomadic camp in the rolling hills, join the life: make yogurt and milk tea, try felt-making, milk the livestock — then watch a mini-Naadam of racing, wrestling and archery at family scale.

Day 7|Ulaanbaatar & Naadam FestivalThe Three Games

Drive 1 hr

The main event: Naadam's opening ceremony at the Central Stadium — parade, folklore, then the wrestling tournament, with ankle-bone shooting and archery outside. Evening brings cashmere shopping and the Tumen Ekh ensemble.
