Overview

A journey through the Mongolia that lives between monastery and steppe. Terelj's granite valleys and Hustai's wild horses open the way to the Orkhon heartland — Karakorum, the waterfall, Zanabazar's mountaintop retreat — before the healing waters of Tsenkher, the birdlife of Ramsar-listed Ugii Lake, and the Khitan ruins of Khar Bukh Balgas.

  • Erdene Zuu, Tuvkhun and the great sites of the Orkhon Valley
  • Soak in the Tsenkher hot springs
  • Ugii Lake: swan geese, Pallas's fish eagles and white-naped cranes
  • The ninth-century Khitan ruins of Khar Bukh Balgas
  • Wild horses at Hustai, granite valleys at Terelj
  • Nomadic family stays and fermented mare's milk in season
